With the cold comes the hot showers, heaters, dry cold air, and of course DRY skin, sigh.
It's inevitable, but don't worry you don't have to give up your hot showers just yet. We have some great tips for keeping your skin hydrated over the colder months, and it wont mean giving up your winter delights either.
So for me, dry skin kicks in around May, or as soon as the air turns a bit colder, you know those days where it's warm in the sun but 4pm hits and it's like someone turned off the heater? Well it's around that time that my skin starts to dry out. My lips are chapped as all hell, and I feel like i need to bath in a bottle of moisturiser twice a day ery-day.
Oh and of course we aren't the only ones to suffer, my kids have the worst time with their skin in winter - don't worry we are working on a kids range (shhhh🤫) which will have some goodies to help your little ones too. My son has the sorest lips and red around his mouth from the dry air and my daughter suffers eczema. You can read our top 5 tips for KIDS here.
Here's our best tips for staying hydrated this winter:
Adjust your Skin Care Routine:
When the air around you changes, it inevitably affects your skin, and so you have to adjust your routine accordingly.
We are huge fans of an easy routine #mumlife. So when it comes to using your skin care in winter to an advantage here's what you can ensure you are doing.
Hydrate morning and night! You cant skip it out anymore, you simply MUST hydrate your skin both in the morning, and in the evening. Once just wont cut it in winter. When we cleanse we strip off any natural oils in our skin, so we must replace them, thats a given right? It's not a huge ask right? Already doing it and still struggling with dry spots? you need to hear number 2.
Invest in so Hyaluronic Acid Serum (HA).
Seriously this is a MUST hyaluronic Acid Serum is your best friend all the time, but in winter it is literally your skin life saver. It can retain 1000x its weight in moisture, imagine what it does for your skin? Use it straight after you cleanse. It will help prevent wrinkles too #bonus.
Double down on the serums.
Add a Vitamin C Serum to your HA, like a pump of each and off you go. VC will take up the rains and do the jobs that HA can't like triggering collagen production and elastin which equals firmer, bouncier skin. They are literally the perfect couple as far as skin care goes.
Here's an easy way to remember it:
HA = Plump
VC = Firm & Glow
Moisturise after your serums!
Obviously you need to moisturise as well as use the serums, it's a no brainer. But you need to invest in a quality moisturiser that is right for your skin type. Take some time to try some samples, really target your skin type and if you can, go natural, there's a lot of skin care products out there that may work ok, but they come with a cost (and i'm not just talking financial), a chemical shit storm is not going to help you later on. Natural is always best! Your skin will thank you later, trust me!
Go easy on the Exfoliants. Now I am a massive fan of exfoliating my skin, like i'm obsessed. But I HAVE to dial it down a notch in winter. If you use fairly hefty exfoliating scrubs you might want to swap to a finer more gentle exfoliant, like our VC exfoliating crystals, and maybe just exfoliate once a week instead of 3 times? The reason being, when we exfoliate too much it can actually strip too much of our moisture barrier away which can lead to damaged skin. You don't want this to happen!
Exfoliating is a great way to help your skin cells renew, but keep it gentle in winter. Our VC Exfoliating Crystals can be mixed with any cleanser so you can alter the harshness of the exfoliating to your needs. I love it, but i'm not going to go on about because this isn't a blog about exfoliating...
The key to keeping your skin healthy is to moisturise your skin frequently with the right products. It’s also important to go easy on exfoliating scrubs, hot water, and other skin care treatments. Keep it simple, use the serums with the moisturiser, morning and night. You will see a difference!
If you have sensitive skin or not quite sure what skin type you are, all of our products are gentle and natural, but we will happily send you a small sample to try, just send us an email or DM on our socials we are happy to help you get your skin care routine sorted!

Becoming a teenager is tough. Your body is rife with hormone surges, everything is exacerbated, feelings, moods, friendships, dramas, and skin problems tend to pop up as well.
I remember someone telling me when i was a teenager that using a plain old bar of soap was the best thing for your skin 😳. Needless to say, I suffered tremendously with breakouts, and just really unpredictable skin, even in to my 20's and early 30's.
